“When I look at Bob White’s art I can smell the swamp, feel the air and the snow. He has illustrated two of my books. If a reader had the drawing and was in that place he would know where he was. I just wish Bob would show me as leaner and longer. You know, a romantic and rustic image, a person with a craggy face and wind swept eyes. If I looked like that I suppose he would. But that’s the point of a White illustration. It draws you in honestly. If you’ve spent some time in the stickery places your eye can’t stay on the surface. It wants to go around the bend.”
