Every day at an Alaskan fly-out lodge begins and ends on the dock. The crew’s been up since before dawn, preparing for the new day, and eventually the float planes are loaded; filled with fishermen, guides, all their gear, and a lot of anticipation. As the planes are turned out, one by one, the pilots ask, “Clear?” And the head guide responds, “Clear!” This is a painting of head guide Chip King giving a pilot the go-ahead. It’s dedicated to Chip and all the guides and pilots I’ve worked with since 1984.
Painted in the summer of 2026 on location in the Bristol Bay region of Alaska.
